Series 9 Water Quad Test Description
The Judges have been generous and kind up until now. The 9th Series Water quadruple marking test is going to separate the strong from the weak and take no prisoners. You will either do the work or you will walk off line shaking your head. We are holding the 9th Series on TJ Lindbloom property. The gallery and Judges are perched high on the hill with a branch of the Umpqua River to the Northwest of our test. The Umpqua River is one of the best trout fishing streams in the nation. The line is overlooking an island filled pond with points jotting out from the shore-lines at all angles. A very busy picture with dense lush cover on many of the points and islands that are perfectly placed in the paths of the marks. The mat is facing due North and the wind is steady out of the North. This test begins with the Long Retired (LR) mark up the middle. This bird is a monster measuring 398 yds. It is a drake mallard requiring a double shot and is being thrown to the right on a spit of land at the end of a channel landing in heavy cover. The next bird to be thrown is hen mallard situated shorter and left of the LR. This mark is thrown to the right as well in a hip-pocket fashion landing on an island on the same shore the gun station sits landing in medium cover. We will refer to this mark as the Mid-Distance Retired mark (MR) measuring at 187 yds. Both of these stations retired after the dog is released for the go-bird. Now the dogs must swing to the far right shoreline of the pond to watch a hen pheasant Flyer (RF) being shot to the left landing in heavy bright green cover of the same shore. The final bird of the test is a temping one and bring the dog to swing far left to the immediate shore. Here a gun stations stands to shoot a mallard clear across a channel of water and point where the bird in sluced in the water on the other side of the point. This bird is exciting and only measures 90 yds. This test is averaging 18 minutes a dog. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

*** Disclaimer – Technical Difficulties ***
This new location for the 9th Series, although picturesque, does not have very good internet connectivity. There is some variability with the cell service because of this rural area. We are situated near the gallery so that we have a view of the test and with many of the spectators using their cell phones, we go in and out of having a good connection. There may be some delays in getting reports out on the blog and we may cut some corners and shorten the descriptions. Please bear with us, while we try to deal with these technical difficulties!
Thank you! ~ Retriever News Team

Gorgeous Landscape
Our Series 7 & Series 8 test has a gorgeous view of Mount Scott. This area has 11 water falls, Diamond Lake, Crater Lake and several other spectacular sites. A wonderful scenic area for the 2014 NARC that contestants and spectators can take advantage of. Not the mention we are only 2 hour from the Pacific coast.
Fun Facts about Mount Scott:
Mount Scott is a small stratovolcano and a so-called parasitic cone on the southeast flank of Crater Lake in southern Oregon. It is approximately 420,000 years old.[3] Its summit is the highest point within Crater Lake National Park, and the tenth highest peak in the Oregon Cascades.[4] A small fire lookout towerstands on the summit, at the end of a trail that zigzags approximately 1,500 feet (460 m) up the mountain. The mountain is named for Oregon pioneer Levi Scott, founder of Scottsburg, Oregon.[5]

Series 8 Water Blind Test Description
The mat is facing Southwest, there is a gentle breeze fluttering across the field coming out of the Northwest making this a crosswind blind. The mat is placed 75 yds away from the waters edge where a single gunner is sitting. The dogs must skim past this gunner on the right (R) swim along the shore then exit the water to run a wide land bridge next re-entering another piece of water to angle across a wide channel exit at the opposite shore where the bird is planted near a heavy plume of cover. This blind is averaging 4 mins a dog.
