Bitch Check – Immediately following the General Meeting at the Fairgrounds.

Conformation Certificate: Fred Kampo has arranged for a conformation review of dogs, for those who desire such. It will also be on June 14, same area and time as the bitch check. There will be a fifteen dollar charge.

Cocktail Party: Saturday, June 14, 2014 – 6:30 pm 2014 Douglas County Fairgrounds Complex, 2110 S.W. Frear Street, Roseburg, OR. Cocktail attire for the ladies and jackets for the gentlemen.

Double Header Party: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 6:30 pm. Contact Robin Gulvin for cost time and location.

Workers Party: Wednesday, June 18, 2014, 6:30 pm

Scratch Policy: Entry Fees will be refunded in full for a bitch coming into season prior to and during the trial. A full refund will be given for a sick or injured dog with a veterinarian certificate. The Field Trial Committee must approve extenuating circumstances before a refund will be given.

What Are They Doing Today?????

Traditionally speaking the first series of many National Retriever Championships will begin with a double marking test & blind. Therefore, many of the groups were training on this concept.

Flyers anyone? The last ten days have been full of fabulous LIVE FLYERS to dilute the retrievers excitement & potential "naughtiness"

A true skill to make these birds fly long & strong as one gunner, John Russell chooses to bring these birds to the ground in a gentlemens fashion armed with a 28 gauge shotgun.

As the last dog was being run I pulled in to greet this cheerful training group. The roster is impressive with Coaches, Dave Rorem, Bill Eckett, & Wayne Curtis. The Amateurs are no slouches in their accomplishments either, they include, Randy Spangler, Bill Barstow, Carl Ruffalo

Louie Churack, Laura Parrot, Lauren Hayes, Loren Morehouse, Bob Hanssen, Chuck Schweikert, Bob Hayden, David Colwell, Mike Enmon, & Kaye Fuller.

A Pocket Full Of Daisies.....

After traveling on what seemed to be a two mile long driveway, daisies appear. Here on Gary & Sheri Zellner's property Coach, Danny Farmer and his crew consisting of Amateurs; Ed Aycock, John & Martha Russell, Mike Boley, Sylvia McClure, Laurie Junewick, Ed Krueger, Rett Sage, George Francis,& Jack Schaaf "the worlds greatest blind planter"are about to perform a blind.

As the road is winding thru the foothills of this mountain range, gorgeous pastures emerge. Sparcley sprinkled among the hills are vegetable & fruit farms. As the miles rack up a vineyard will appear, a rich & lavish landscape indeed.

On this dewy, overcast morning I'm visiting the larger of the training groups to include "Coaches" Alan & Gwen Pleasant, Al Arthur, Jerry & Jane Patopea, & Paul Sletten. The Amateurs buzzing in & out of the field are; Chris Hatch, Linda Harger, Alvin Hatcher, 2014 NARC TEST DOG Marilyn Dalheim, Don Graves, Brett Crow, Ken Neil, Anne Marshall, Sammie Thompson, Mike Crow, Northrup Larson, David Zalunardo, Dan Hurst, just to name a few.

Preparation Is In Order.....

Professional Trainers referred to as "the coaches" in this instance where the Owners or Handlers known as "the Amateur" are competing against other Amateur Handlers from across the country. The coaches & Amateurs are organized into Pre-National Training Groups. These groups were assigned training areas surrounding the event sight by local Professional Retriever Trainers Jerry & Jane Patopea. 

Thanks to the generosity of area Professionals & Amateurs, Jerry & Jane Patopea, John & Amie Henninger, Gary & Sheri Zellner, Dianne & Alex Morley, Dan & Keely Morin, & Jack & Florence Vollstedt these groups have been able to acclimate their competing retrievers to the wet, moist climate, vegetation, & most of all this hilly terrain. 

Quote Of The Day: "It's just a double & a blind." How many of us have uttered those words before coming to the line?

Gearing Up......

Today the team will be organizing our gear and performing various duties in order to prepare for the start of the National Amateur Retriever Championship on June 15, 2014. While out and about we will visit some of the Pre-National training groups. Wish us LUCK we don't get lost in this mountainous terrain!
