Series 1 & 2 Test Description
The mat is facing due South and situated on a gentle slope. We are looking up a tall hillside where the gunners are placed in a Flower Pot fashion. The first bird to be thrown measures at 145 yds and is a dead rooster pheasant. This gun station sits at the right edge of a large brush pile, throwing slightly angle in to the left. The bird is landing behind the far left edge of the brush pile in medium cover. This gun station retires once the dog is released for the Go-Bird. The Go-Bird is a Flyer Rooster pheasant. This bird is measuring at 221 yds and is thrown to the right. This Rooster is landing on the downward slope of the next hillside. Once the Handler/Dog team completes the marking test they are on their own to run a blind. The blind measures at 270 yds and is situated to the left of the marking test. A Rooster pheasant is placed at the base of a large live oak tree in medium cover. The test takes about six minutes per dog.
Conditions Report Day 1
The wind is lightly tussling over this gorgeous landscape into the valleys and up the hillsides. The temperature is a pleasant 57'F and currently overcast and warming up to 70'F.

Cocktails Anyone....
The Cocktail party was held at the fairgrounds. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious! The baked Brie and Roast Beef were cooked to perfection. The party included a bucket raffle. Participants who purchased raffle tickets dropped them into buckets situated around the room in front of various items. Then a ticket was drawn from the bucket to announce the "WINNING" ticket. Also available were items for silent auction. One "Live" auction item was auctioned. The special item was a dark hard wood table given to Bill Sargenti by his friend and mentor Rex Carr. The purchase of this table enabled the new owner to have their name placed on this item which would be donated to the Retriever Hall Of Fame for all to view, in recognition of the buyers contribution.

Check Out The Girls.....
The meetings are adjourned and it is time for the veterinarians to inspect the bitches in order to confirm no competing dog is in season. This is also the time for the Handlers to get their dog's confirmation certificate. 12 retrievers earned their confirmation certificates. (These retrievers will be published later in the blog.)

The 2014 NARC Judges
The esteemed Judges for the 2014 National Amateur Retriever Championship held in Roseburg, OR are:
John Pampy - Mountain Time Zone,
Steve O'Connell - Eastern Time Zone
Dennis Bath - Central Time Zone.
How To Draw.......
Traditionally the National Clubs will number Avery bumpers, throw them in a pile and have a non-competing dog run back to the pile to retrieve the starting number. Then typically the contestants are given the bumper with their dog's running number on it.
This year was a special treat for the contestants. NARC President Arnie Erwin created wooden blind stakes; hand-carved and painted with feathers and their number that were placed in a large bucket. The Douglas County Commissioner, Doug Robertson chose the starting number for the 2014 National Amateur Retriever Championship.
